About broken buckle beefalo

It all started in 1992 when I was just 8 years old…

I saved up all the money I could and purchased my very own Beefalo Bull at the 1992 Beef Expo in Louisville, Kentucky when I was just 8 years old. I dreamed of winning banners and having a huge Beefalo herd. I wanted to be somebody in the Beefalo world all while most kids wanted to be super heroes. I was a young kid and loved the idea of cattle farming; I had big goals and a long way to go with Beefalo. Years went by and the dream stayed - I have since gone on to win numerous Beefalo National Grand Championship Banners and have grown my herd extensively and it all started with a very special Beefalo… NCFM BART and here is just a snipit of my Beefalo story:

Broken Buckle Beefalo’s Historical Bull NCFM BART- this guy and I have a story no doubt. Our story starts in Southern Indiana in 1999. Bart came to me as one of 3 calves in December of 1999 from Mr. John Tableman to halter break for the National Beefalo Show and Sale coming up the following March. Mr. Tableman would pay me for training, feeding, washing, clipping and showing his 3 calves by giving me one. He gave me Bart at the 2000 National Show and Sale for the work I had done. No doubt my 16 year old self had help with all of this and help getting our own cattle broke and shown from my family! My dad and uncle helped out tremendously. My grandfather helped in all the ways he could but by 2000 it was mostly cooking and transportation for myself. No doubt it was and has always been a family function. Anyway back to Bart! Bart was a very well behaved young bull. I had thoughts of keeping Bart for a future herd bull but I also needed funds because like all other 16 year olds I had a tractor payment that needed to be made. So before the sale I talked to a few people that had interest in Bart. One couple “The McDaniels” that I had dealt with previously was impressed with this guy. . They bid a whooping $610 to obtain Barts ownership. Big money for a yearling bull at that time of the cattle market. Good news was I knew where Bart was going and he was staying in Kentucky! Fast Forward 3 years and Dr McDaniel calls me up a couple of weeks before the 2003 National Beefalo Show. He says he has to perform surgery on the Friday of the show but had a lone entry in the Show “Bart” and wants to know if he drops him off there on Wednesday night can I take care of him until he gets freed up from work? I told him that was no problem. Show Time: Wednesday night I’m in the wash racks and dad comes down to notify me that Bart is here and tied with our cattle..... but dad had a look on him that made me ask what was going on? He said go look at him! So I went to the stalling area and WOW that’s a lot of bull!!! I told dad whatever it takes that bull is leaving with me this time! Friday the show rolls around and this guy wins National Grand Champion Beefalo Bull!!! This was my first experience showing a something that won NATIONAL GRAND CHAMPION! Saturday rolls around and Dr McDaniel and his wife are there talking to me about Bart before the sale that day. They were concerned that someone might buy Bart for hamburger or possibly no one would buy him... I told them he had a buyer and told them it was me! They seemed happy about that and he said he could use a couple of heifers. Well I had 5 or 6 heifers standing next to Bart! So I asked him which ones and how many of those would it take to make us both happy? They picked 2 out and the deal was done! Bart went on to sire KSBC CAVEMAN who won 6 National Grand Champion Beefalo Bull titles. At one time half of my cow herd was sired by Bart. Bart was easy to be around and was a GAME CHANGER for our farm no doubt!!! Check out the tab “OUR CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY” for a timeline and pictures!

THANK YOU FOR READING MY BEEFALO STORY and if you need help obtaining your Beefalo farm dreams please let me know - I would be happy to help!
